Inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, BBC Two Learning Zone has produced a new series of video maths challenges for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. Developed with input from us (the University of Cambridge's Millennium Mathematics Project), 3, 2, 1, Go! sees real schoolchildren solve problems given to them by Olympic champions and sporting heroes.

  • This Key Stage 3 video maths challenge from BBC Two Learning Zone features the Heathrow Gymnastics Club in Greater London and GB Gymnast Daniel Purvis. The challenge is to mark out four different degrees of rotation that Daniel’s body passes through during a 360 degree flip.

  • This Key Stage 2 video maths challenge from BBC Two Learning Zone features the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and Welsh Rugby Union stars Lloyd Williams and Harry Robinson. The challenge is to find out how far Lloyd has to run to catch his 'up and under', given how long the ball is in the air and that Lloyd can run 10 metres in a second.

  • This Key Stage 3 video maths challenge from BBC Two Learning Zone takes place at Bisham Abbey and features Olympic sculler Anna Watkins. The challenge is to measure how the rowing crew's stroke rate changes over the training session, find the average, and decide whether the crew improved over the session or not.

  • This Key Stage 1 video maths challenge from BBC Two Learning Zone features the National Cycling Centre in Manchester and world individual pursuit champion Sarah Storey. The challenge is to time 4 laps completed by Sarah’s teammates, then find which one was the fastest.

  • In this video maths challenge from BBC Two Learning Zone two Key Stage 1 schoolchildren are taken to Arsenal’s training ground. They meet Arsenal player Tomas Rosicky, and are set a maths challenge related to football. Each child has ten shots at goal. The challenge is to add up how many they score and see who wins.
